Imagining a post Sendai DRR
#DRRLive is a series of online and in-person events which launched in 2012. The events use expert knowledge and experience to highlight practical and operational perspectives in policy development and implementation within disaster risk reduction and with a specific focus on marginalised and at-risk groups. Since the series launch, the events have used discussion presentations and debate to examine urgent topics around disaster risk reduction and the climate crisis.
This report concludes that for a comprehensive DRR approach, it's vital to grasp informal displacement patterns, engage proactively with at-risk communities, address both tangible and intangible displacement effects, and prioritise long-term rehabilitation. Furthermore, strong partnerships across different sectors, notably among the scientific community, urban developers, and citizens, form the foundation for an effective disaster risk reduction (DRR) framework. Solid risk governance and policy development become even more critical in the face of rising uncertainties. Insights from disciplines such as social sciences, urban planning, and political sciences are crucial to DRR
