Portmore comprehensive disaster management plan 2014-2024
Portmore is one of the largest developing regions in St. Catherine Parish, Jamaica. It is located to the south coast of the island which accounts for the exposure to a wide range of geological and hydrometeorological disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. The area is prone to several other hazards such as flooding in low lying or poorly drained areas in addition to land slips in hilly regions, this is as a result of the composition and formation of the land.
The purpose of this Comprehensive Disaster Management Plan is to provide a framework for which the Municipality can organize schemes that aims for the safety and security of all residents for different communities, while cooperating as one cohesive Municipality. The plan takes into consideration all phases of the disaster management cycle, by coordinating life-saving activities before, during and after an emergency or disaster has occurred.
