The Oscar M. Lopez Center is seeking a Knowledge Resources Manager who will lead the strategic management of the Center’s knowledge assets and intellectual property effectively, which include curating, organizing and utilizing knowledge for the organization’s optimization and strategic advantage.
This role contributes to the organization by developing effective strategies and systems for creating, disseminating and using knowledge assets in pursuit of the Center’s goal of becoming a credible and accessible resource in climate change discourse.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Knowledge Resources Manager will primarily lead the implementation of the Knowledge Resources Unit, its programs and activities, as well as other relevant Center activities, working in coordination with the Programs Director, other Unit Managers and staff. The following are the specific duties and responsibilities of the Knowledge Resources Manager:
- Knowledge Resources Curation & Promotion
- Develop and implement strategies, tools and opportunities for knowledge and information management that increases the Center’s overall strategic advantage, which includes:
- Developing a baseline and consistently updating the Center’s knowledge base.
- In collaboration with the other Units, curate the Center’s knowledge assets for stakeholder relevance, usability and organizational efficiency.
- Develop and implement initiatives to increase collaboration on knowledge creation, storage, sharing and transfer within the organization, or the overall flow of knowledge throughout the organization, which include:
- Coordinating with other knowledge providers, brokers or equivalents within and outside the Center.
- Developing, supporting, and/or promoting opportunities to facilitate knowledge sharing among communities of practice.
- Cultivate partnerships and outreach initiatives for the promotion the Center’s knowledge resources.
- Knowledge Assets Management
- Develop and implement systems, policies and platforms for effective information gathering, processing, evaluation, storage, utilization, dissemination, access and retrieval;
- Develop and implement procedures that ensure uptake and utilization of knowledge management systems and policies, as well as reduce knowledge asset-related incidents.
- In collaboration with other Units, ensure the intellectual and data protection of the Center’s knowledge assets;
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of knowledge management systems, as well as identify areas for improvement in knowledge management policies and processes; and
- Promote awareness, understanding, and utilization of the Center’s knowledge management in alignment with the Center’s goals, which include:
- Develop knowledge management readiness with the Center to impact performance and strategy.
- Create and promote a knowledge management culture.
- Research Publishing / Journal Management
- Enable research, analyze and promote the generation of knowledge assets to be shared, published and/or disseminated by the Center, primarily building on the Center’s knowledge resources to add value and impact, ultimately advancing climate discourse.
- Develop and manage the Center’s collection, synthesis and review of internal and external research outputs for eventual publication.
- Coordinate the production, editing, proofing of knowledge materials.
- Oversee the verification and authentication of the roster of publications that emanate from the Center’s work.
- Establish and manage links, certifications/accreditations and partnerships in support of the development and promotion of the publications, in coordination with other units.
- Manage and coordinate registration of proprietary materials with appropriate government agencies (e.g. IPO, national library, etc.).
- Oversee the effective management and advancement of the Center’s scientific journal.
- Knowledge Resources Unit Management
- Manage and monitor Knowledge Resources Unit’s personnel (as needed) and budget.
- Lead the unit’s operational planning, mid-year and year-end reviews and work towards ensuring the timely accomplishment of unit targets and goals.
- In collaboration with other units, develop and review agreements related to the implementation of knowledge management systems, as well as monitor such agreements throughout the its lifecycle to ensure milestones are met.
- Develop and update relevant policies, frameworks, guidelines, templates etc.
Qualifications
- At least seven to ten years of experience in:
- Developing and implementing knowledge management strategies, policies and processes;
- Managing knowledge assets and resources;
- Stakeholder Engagement and partnership development; and
- Project management and process improvement methodologies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Information Management, Informatics and Data Science, Developmental Communications and Communications Research or related fields;
- Certifications in Knowledge Management, Library and/or Project Management an advantage;
- Experience in project management, including budget management and financial analysis;
- Experience in strategy development and implementation;
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including, information technology service providers, government agencies, academic institutions, etc.;
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills with stakeholders;
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics;
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple knowledge management initiatives concurrently;
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
- Basic understanding of climate change and an ability to confidently communicate with others on climate change; and
- Knowledge and experience working in the climate resilience space is considered an advantage.
