Conceptual basis of drought management plan in Ukraine

This document aims at identifying strategic directions of state policy for the creation of an effective national drought management system to effectively combat the effects and strengthen society's readiness for drought; to combat desertification and land degradation on the base of risk management approaches, gender equality; to ensure food security and integrated management of natural resources; to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of climate change.

The document defines the basis for the formulation of the Drought Management Plan (DMP) as a tool of the drought management system at the national level in Ukraine. The National DMP mainly focuses on guaranteeing water availability and socio-economic development of territories, ensuring food security of the country and sustainable development of agriculture. The main goals of the DMP in Ukraine are to minimize the effects of drought and increase the preparedness of society and communities for drought risks.
