Peer reviews on Transformative Innovation for Climate Change Adaptation – The regional case of Blekinge
The Peer Review exercise for Blekinge on Transformative Innovation for better Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) was organised 22/10/2024, by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, as part of a series of such events focusing on territories that had recently been the subject of case study research on this specific topic. This follows a conceptual framework established by Harding and Nauwelaers (2024), and the case study report conducted for the Blekinge region in Sweden (Morales, 2024).
This report summarises the results of peer review exercise. It highlights actionable insights for implementing climate change adaptation (CCA) strategies within the context of regional innovation policies in Blekinge. The peer review exercise constitutes a way to leverage expertise from other regions to partly overcome CCA limitations, particularly in terms of building knowledge and networks. Most of the strategies suggested by the peers refer to finding better ways to communicate the need for innovation in CCA work, expanding the breadth of stakeholders needed for collaborative work and experimentation, building capacity for stakeholders, and rethinking goals and metrics. This also resonates with research in the area of transformative innovation.
