The Diploma Programme at the University of Wisconsin has been designed for practicing disaster/emergency management professionals throughout the world. The programme allows the diploma candidate to combine traditional undergraduate and graduate college courses with a variety of continuing education programs-institutes, short courses, independent study, correspondence, and telecommunications courses. This is a personal study program which can combine Disaster Management Center’s self-study courses with courses from other organizations anywhere in the world. Self-study course modules are available in text, video and computer-based media format. No residency is required to obtain this diploma.

The minimum academic requirement is completion of a secondary education. Anyone with interest or experience in disaster/emergency management can take the self-study courses. Students are not required to have an engineering background to enrol. As most of the materials are in English, competence in the language is a prerequisite.
