Erasmus+ Master in earthquake engineering and/or engineering seismology (MEEES)
Location
Pavia - Patras - Grenoble - Ankara
Degree
MSc in Earthquake Engineering and/or MSc in Engineering Seismology
Description
Erasmus+ Master in Earthquake Engineering and/or Engineering Seismology (MEEES): Applications for MEEES, approved and financially supported by the European Commission under the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, have opened. MEEES is organized by a consortium of European university and research institutions, led by IUSS Pavia’s UME School (www.umeschool.it) and featuring the participation of the University of Patras (Greece), the University of Grenoble Joseph Fourier (France), the Middle East Technical University (Turkey). Scholarships are available to applicants from all nationalities.
The MEEES programme is an Erasmus+ Masters Course, that aims to provide higher-level education in the field of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology. Graduate students involved in this Erasmus+ course have the possibility of following a 18-month MSc programmes on either Earthquake Engineering or Engineering Seismology.
Themes
If following the Engineering Seismology option, students will acquire the ability to design, execute and evaluate assessments of seismic hazard for site-specific engineering projects, for earthquake loss assessments, and for emergency planning scenarios. Students following the Earthquake Engineering option will acquire the ability to undertake seismic design of new structures and the assessment and strengthening of existing structures.
Alternatively, and so as not to deprive graduates from the opportunity of becoming experts in both aspects of earthquake risk mitigation, the proposed programme envisages also the possibility of students following an 18-month study programme that leads to the attainment of a total of 90 credits and which comprises the acquisition, through attendance of taught modules and the carrying out of a research dissertation, of at least 42 credits on each of the two Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology components.
Admission requirement
The minimum requirement in order to apply for the MEEES programme is a University Degree, preferrably in Civil Engineering. Past professional experience will be valued.
Admission to the course depends on academic qualifications, past professional experience and English proficiency, all of which should be included in the online submission procedure described here.
During the online application procedure the applicant will also be asked to indicate the name and email address of three referees. The online system will automatically contact these referees in order to obtain the reference letters. The applicant may enter the system at any time to check whether the reference letters have been submitted.
The deadline for the submission of the letters of reference coincides with the application deadline. For this reason applicants are strongly advised to start the application procedure as soon as possible to provide referees plenty of time to write committed letters. Letters of reference submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Through the online application procedure, applicants must provide electronic copies of the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae e studiorum
- copy of the diploma certificate (in Italian or English)
- transcript of the attended courses and professional qualifications (in Italian or English)
- copy of the passport or the identity card
- English language test certificate (or waiver referring to previous courses, work experience in English speaking countries, etc...)
The MEEES Admissions Board will assess all admissions in February 2015, afterwards it will send the scholarships list to the European Commission for final approval. It is expected that the final results of the selection process will be available by the end of May 2015 (for Partner and Programme Country scholarships) and by the end of June 2015 (for Consortium scholarships and admissions without scholarship).
Finally, please note that applicants may apply to a maximum of three Erasmus+ Masters Programmes. In the eventual case that a student applies to more than three E+ Courses he/she will be excluded from the selection for an Erasmus+ Scholarship.
