Masters of Climate Change
Description
The University of Waterloo invites applications to its Masters of Climate Change (MCC) program. This one-year, course-based climate change program is the first of its kind in Canada. The MCC provides a unique interdisciplinary educational experience for students and practicing professionals interested in the rapidly evolving field of climate change and diverse the research, policy and management career paths emerging in in business, NGOs, education, and all levels of government.
The MCC is taught by professors from the Faculty of Environment (Geography and Environmental Management; School of Environment, Enterprise and Development) and other programs across the University of Waterloo that have extensive research and professional expertise in climate change detection and modeling, vulnerability assessment, adaptation planning, mitigation policy, enterprise carbon management, and climate compatible development. Several of our faculty have contributed to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessments and have had key roles in advising a wide range of Canadian and international organizations.
Admission requirement
Students applying to the program will normally have a first degree in a relevant field of study (for example, geography, environment, engineering, economics, earth and environmental science, business, management, political science, development studies, or planning) or be nearing completion of their first degree (and anticipate completion before beginning the MCC program).
Successful applicants must have completed a four-year Bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a humanities, social science, health, engineering, science, or business discipline with an overall average of at least 75% in the final 20 courses (or last 2 years). Applicants must supply three letters of reference, at least two of which must be from academic referees.
In some instances, students with a three-year degree are accepted into a "qualifying period" whereby they take one or two terms of prescribed undergraduate courses and then, if grades on these are high enough (usually 75%), the student is allowed to proceed into the MCC program. Please contact Alan Anthony for more information on qualifying years.
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate command of the English language with a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based), or 90 (internet-based) or the equivalent on one of the following comparable tests: CAEL 70, IELTS 7.0, MELAB 85. (See Academic Regulations - English Language Proficiency Certification for other acceptable tests of English). Please contact Alan Anthony with any other questions on English language requirements.
