MSc (Eng) Process Safety and Loss Prevention

Description
The course covers the major process safety and loss prevention issues that affect process industries today. These industries constantly strive to reduce the risk to their employees, the public and the environment from their processes. You will learn about and apply the tools and techniques that are currently used by process safety professionals to manage process safety risks.
The course is accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers and receives students from all over the world - either as recent graduates or part-time students from industry.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering has brought together leading experts from industry, regulators, consultancies and the University of Sheffield to run the courses.
The course has been offered for over 25 years and more than one thousand students have graduated. Graduates from the course are much sought-after by major companies in the oil & gas, nuclear, chemical and pharmaceuticals sectors.
The course has undergone a major refresh and restructure in 2015 to ensure that it continues to reflect current best practice in process safety and loss prevention.
There will also be the opportunity for some students to carry out research projects based on the pilot plant facilities in the Engineering Faculty “Diamond” building, due to open in this upcoming academic year.
Admission requirement
- A good degree (at least a 2.2) in a relevant engineering or science discipline or deemed qualified as a result of a lower qualification accompanied by wide work experience which is directly relevant to the course
- IELTS with an average of 6.5 or above with at least 5.5 in each component or equivalent
- It should be noted that for entrants without a first degree at classification 2.2 or above, initial entrance must be to the Diploma course, with the opportunity to transfer to the MSc on satisfactory completion of half of the taught course material.
