The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and intergovernmental organization, owned and managed by its Member States. RIMES provides regional early warning services and builds capacity of its Member States in the end-to-end early warning of tsunami and hydro-meteorological hazards.
The Application Development Specialist shall support Systems Development and Research Unit in developing state-of-the-art applications to meet various demands from RIMES Member States and their stakeholders. He/She shall also involve actively in ongoing application development/ customization activities. These include development of decision support systems, troubleshooting/ resolving software application issues, modifications in existing applications to meet changing user requirements, documentation, and system design and functional specifications for new projects.
Type of contract:
One-year initially, extendable on above-satisfactory performance
Minimum qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Preferably Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field;
- Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications;
- Strong technical knowledge of systems networking, databases, and web development
Experience:
- At least 4 years experience in web-based application development in any standard platform;
- Experience in database design (MySQL, Microsoft SQL, or Access);
- Experience in Microsoft.Net, Visual Basic, HTML, PHP, Perl, shell;
- Adequate experience in various Linux/Unix distribution platforms
Skills and abilities:
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability;
- English proficiency in communication, presentation, and report writing

- Self-motivated, with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities;
- Flexibility and ability to work hard independently and in a team;
- Ability to work in a high-pressure on-call environment
