Our hands-on assessment of major earthquakes, floods and cyclones has fostered our extensive experience in assessing social and economic vulnerability of rural and urban populace. We have developed vulnerability curves for buildings and infrastructural damages due to various disasters. Our studies have been extensively referred and used for deciding quantum of relief packages by the government and donor-funded interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities

TARU Leading Edge is plan to recruit a dynamic, self-motivated, and results-oriented Civil/Structural/Earthquake Engineer to provide necessary support to its project activities where ever needed within India and overseas.

This is fulltime position under Risk and Resilience practice of TARU Leading Edge. The specialist will work from TARU’s New Delhi office under the direct supervision of Practice Head or Director, Risk and Resilience. She/he will also work closely with Practices Managers of Risk and Resilience at TARU. 

The specific tasks to be undertaken are:

  • Field survey, analysis and design of earthquake-resistant buildings as required by TARU projects and programs.
  • Rapid visual screening (RVS) for seismic vulnerability assessment based on existing tools.
  • Seismic vulnerability assessment of existing buildings, development of intervention measures/options, analysis of options, comparative analysis of options, retrofit designs.
  • Structural and non-structural vulnerability assessment of critical lifeline / public infrastructures.
  • Develop / use existing methodologies for seismic vulnerability assessment of buildings and other critical lifeline infrastructure.
  • Develop training module and materials for awareness and training programs on earthquake-resistant design and construction of buildings.
  • Develop plans, programs and strategies for earthquake risk reduction and preparedness.
  • Conduct training and capacity building programs, awareness programs and other information, knowledge sharing meetings, workshops, conferences.
  • Assist in implementation of projects and programs to be implemented by TARU.
  • Liaison with concerned government organizations at national and state level in the Country.
  • Reporting and documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualification

  • Advanced university degree (M.Sc./ M.Tech./Post graduate degree) in Civil, Structural or Earthquake Engineering from recognized institutes.
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience especially with national, international consulting, research, civil society organizations.
  • Fluent spoken and written English language
  • Computer skills: MS Office, AutoCAD, Structural Engineering Software
  • Ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan/design and execute ideas.
  • High personal & professional integrity.
  • Team player and ability to work under pressure and meeting deadlines. Problem solving attitude. Experience of managing teams and logistics
  • Good analytical, and knowledge management skills including writing and presentation skills
  • Experience with GIS and Statistical tools/software will be an added advantage
  • Excellent fluency in English (both spoken and written) and at least one regional languages from South Asia would be added advantage.
  • Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting Line: The Civil/Structural/Earthquake Engineer will report to Practice Head or Director, Risk and Resilience at TARU.

CTC: Attractive. The remuneration shall not be a constraint for the deserving candidate.
