They are looking to recruit a Climate Change Business and Communications Manager, with the purpose of:
- Strengthening business development processes from a strategic and operational perspective, including assessing options and delivering activities for generating new revenue.
- Providing leadership on strategic communications processes and delivering key communications projects, to increase the effectiveness of ODI’s communications around climate-compatible development.
- Providing dedicated technical support and leadership to each of the cross-Institute clusters in proposal, budget development, and other work winning processes.
- Leading business planning and strategy processes
- On occasion, deputising for the Head of Climate Change in internal meetings as appropriate
- Flagging new opportunities to Research Fellows to enable them to respond in a strategic, proactive manner to new opportunities.
- Engaging in front line project/programme delivery as required and skills support.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Change Business and Communications Manager will be responsible for:
- Managing processes for winning funding for the Institute’s work on effective climate-compatible development, including overseeing and supporting the preparation and submission of bids and proposals
- Growing ODI’s public profile as a centre of expertise on climate change through improved communications to achieve our mission of ‘effective climate compatible development’
- Developing ideas for generating income from new sources and for promoting innovative areas of research.
- Leading the development and implementation of strategic communications and influencing approaches, working closely with Programme Officers, Heads of Programmes and ODI’s central communications team.
- Working across the Institute to support Heads of Programmes and Research Fellows to identify key research gaps and priorities; develop new collaborative research ideas; and support the delivery of this research in line with business plans.
- Promote cross ODI engagement in the three cluster areas under the strategic priority on climate-compatible development, including finding creative ways to both engage busy staff and strengthen integration of climate change across Programmes.
- Monitoring and analyzing trends in the market to inform strategy and annual business planning processes.
- Monitoring and analyzing trends in the impact of ODI’s work on effective climate compatible development.
- Leading internal business planning and strategy development processes, including deputising for the Head of Programme where appropriate.
- Carrying out public affairs and research tasks as appropriate
- Contributing to collegiate life at the Institute, including participating in staff meetings, interviews, working groups and providing guidance to colleagues
Knowledge and Qualifications:
- A post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline;
- Extensive knowledge of key issues in climate change and development
- Extensive knowledge of funding bodies for research and policy advisory work on climate change and development
- Knowledge of communications processes, strategic communications planning and recent approaches to digital communications.
- Knowledge of developing and growing businesses
Experience:
- Experience in business development and in improving business development systems in the climate change, environment or development sector.
- Experience in strategic communications and implementing communications strategies in diverse environments.
- Experience in business planning and strategy development.
- Experience in leading and managing significant proposal development processes
- Experience of working on development and / or climate change issues in a developing country
Skills/Abilities:
- Project and proposal development and management skills
- Excellent communication abilities in relation to a wide variety of audiences
- Time management skills, including managing complex and varied workloads
- Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently as required
- Excellent negotiating, listening, problem solving, writing and decision making skills.
- Abilities to work across organisations and with those working within diverse disciplines.
- Willingness to travel
Desirable:
- A strong understanding of climate change policy and of national level climate change and development challenges.
