Ethiopia is one of the most disaster-affected countries in the world. Ethiopia’s recent history makes the country synonymous with drought, and it remains the major natural hazard at present. The overall goal of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre's program is to improve the institutional capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters in Ethiopia by strengthening the institutional system and technical capabilities of the Federal Disaster Risk Management Commission and other key stakeholder agencies. It will be achieved through the provision of technical assistance, training and partnership opportunities for the implementation of “DRM Strategic Program and Investment Framework” (SPIF) and other priority actions in key sectors, namely agriculture and health.
The program focuses on strengthening the institutional and human resource capacity of national, state and local governments who are involved or shall be involved in humanitarian response and risk reduction activities in the country. The project creates a model that strengthens the Federal Disaster Risk Management Commission to play a leading role in implementing the priority program activities of the “DRM Strategic Program and Investment Framework” (SPIF) and plays a catalytic role in mainstreaming DRR into health and agriculture sectors. This will be achieved through the engagement of multi-stakeholders for the implementation of priority activities under the SPIF and other sector level national frameworks related to DRR.
In line with this project, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre requires a consultant who can help facilitate tasks related to this project. A technical and financial proposal must be submitted, with guidelines available online here.
