Work on a disaster action plan that will help to prevent loss of life and property in a Philippines province vulnerable to natural disasters such as mudslides, landslides and flooding.

This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development program, an Australian Government initiative.

Kiangan, in the province of Ifugao, is extremely vulnerable to natural disasters such as mudslides, landslides and flooding.

The Local Government of Kiangan is seeking to develop a disaster action plan for the municipality, which will contribute to improved community preparedness and help to reduce loss of life and property.

An Australian volunteer has been requested to help develop this plan. The volunteer will assist with both practical, community-based activities and more strategic government-level approaches.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience developing strategic plans, particularly with an environmental or disaster risk reduction focus
  • Experience in engaging and mobilising participants in community-based projects
  • Qualifications in disaster management or equivalent professional experience
  • Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
