Work with a primary school in the Whitesands area of Vanuatu to develop community awareness materials that will increase local disaster preparedness. You will help the community to prepare for diverse threats, ranging from active volcanoes to droughts to severe storms.

This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

Divine School is a primary school located in the Whitesands area, Tanna Island, Vanuatu. The school teaches 122 students in Years 1 to 6. There are nine other schools in this area, seven French-speaking and two English-speaking.

Tanna Island is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, including the impacts of ash fall from an active volcano. Divine School, in collaboration with local disaster management staff, is committed to helping its community to become more resilient to disasters.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Significant experience working in an emergency or disaster related field
