The Australian Red Cross seeks a volunteer for an assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years and over, Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with Special Category Visas.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Numancia wishes to develop a disaster action plan and build the staff team's capacity in disaster risk reduction.

An AVID volunteer is being sought to work with the Disaster Management Unit to implement a disaster plan for the municipality which will involve both practical, community-based activities and more strategic government-level approaches. The volunteer will also be requested to conduct first aid training based on the plan.

Requirements

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in training and capacity building specific to disaster management
  • Experience in developing and implementing disaster risk reduction activities at the community level
  • Qualifications or specialised training in disaster risk reduction and management
  • Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
