The Australian Red Cross seeks a volunteer for an assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years and over, Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with Special Category Visas.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) coordinates all disaster and emergency operations in Mongolia, including fire fighting and search-and-rescue operations. NEMA is also responsible for developing a legal environment and an information system for disaster prevention and response.

An AVID volunteer is being sought to work with the Policy and Strategic Planning Department in collaboration with the Training Department, to develop model curriculum (classroom and online) on disaster preparedness and management tools for public agencies and community organisations. The volunteer will also assist in developing a textbook and trainer's guidebook for the model curriculum.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience developing disaster related training and training curriculum
  • Sound mentoring and/or coaching skills
  • Qualifications in disaster management or public health and/or equivalent experience
  • Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
