Main responsibilities

- Undertake the sector dialogue with key stakeholders to identify potential areas of Bank support to further promote an integrated disaster risk management in Latin American and the Caribbean countries.

- Prepare strategic and sector notes and documents, consistent with the Region's needs and development objectives.

- Identify, design and prepare loans and technical cooperations for potential projects and programs that respond to Country Strategies and priority areas of the Bank.

- Manage the Division's portfolio of non-reimbursable technical cooperation projects financed through the Bank's disaster prevention funds; promote the use of these funds and other Bank financial instruments to leverage loan investments, where applicable.

- Assist in the supervision of financial products, managing risks and results throughout the project horizon.

- Provide advice to other divisions of the Bank on how to mainstream Disaster Risk Management in their regular programs and operations, when requested.

- Supervise the development and implementation of programs in capacity building for Bank personnel, in collaboration with KLN.

- Promote the Bank's value added, and work as a "facilitator" for organizational change and development.

Qualifications

Requirements

Education

- An advanced degree in disaster risk management related disciplines such as, economics, engineering, geological sciences, development planning, environmental or natural resource management.

Experience

- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant, practical post-graduate professional experience in the design and/or supervision of disaster risk management systems, projects or programs, with emphasis in Latin America and the Caribbean.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues, economic and financial aspects, and roles of public and private sectors in disaster risk management.

- Familiarity with the programming and project cycle procedures of the Bank or other multi-lateral financial institutions operating in the region is an asset. A pertinent publication record is desirable.

Languages

- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish, and working knowledge of English.
