The Fiji Council of Social Services' Microfinance Unit implements four key programs for disadvantaged communities: financial literacy training, business skills training, a savings scheme, and small business loans.

Poor and disadvantaged communities often bear the high cost of disasters given their limited choice when deciding where to live, which affects and at times totally destroys their microenterprises.

The Fiji Council of Social Services is seeking an AVID volunteer who can help integrate disaster risk reduction and management into all of its programs.

The volunteer will help to implement disaster risk reduction elements into programs, as well as develop disaster risk reduction assessment tools for the microfinance program.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in training in a development context
  • Experience in community-based programming
  • Qualifications in disaster risk reduction or equivalent professional experience in the private sector
  • Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
