Background

Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Duties and responsibilities

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a Consultant for the role of Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Protection Trainer (Santo Project - Haiti). HFHI will implement a project in the community of Santo that is part of the town of Léogâne in order to provide training to 250- 500 families affected by the earthquake who live in poverty. Training will be used to teach families how to build a new home or repair their existing home, and reach ability to gain employment in the construction industry.

One of the project’s objectives is to impart to the beneficiaries Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Protection knowledge through a consultant who will provide training and awareness outreach on mitigating the risks that are inherent in their environment.

Key tasks include:

- To raise beneficiaries’ knowledge and awareness regarding Disaster Risk Reduction and Environment protection through training and awareness outreach that deals with and not limited to the following: seismic, hurricane, flooding, erosion, trash.
- To present to HFHI’s satisfaction a training module that addresses both DRR and EP for the beneficiaries.
- To present to HFHI’s satisfaction awareness outreach material that addresses both DRR and EP for the beneficiaries.
- To develop a schedule for the training and awareness outreach in partnership with the HFHI Capacity Training Manager.
- To execute the approved schedule by holding training session(s) with the beneficiaries.
- Pre and Post evaluation of beneficiaries knowledge on DR and EP.
- Upon completing all related training sessions, the consultant will generate a report on lessons learned in the implementation of the training program.

Required skills

- Master's Degree in Disaster Risk Management, development, environmental policy or related field preferred; Bachelor's Degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of advance degree.
- Previous training on natural risks, geography, and environment.
- Previous experience implementing Disaster Risk Reduction programs.
- Previous experience in monitoring and evaluation training.
- Previous experience in writing narratives and reports.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with community outreach and participatory methodologies, experience in creating training modules,
- Must possess skills in leadership, teamwork and relationship building.
- Proficiency in Haitian Creole.
- Ability to write French and/or English preferred.
