Background information - UNOPS

UNOPS Sustainable Infrastructure Practice Group (SIPG) houses the UNOPS Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)/Resilience Programme as well as the closely related Infrastructure Assessment Project.

UNOPS has endorsed the commitments outlined in the UN plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience, and is therefore working to develop and embed Disaster Risk Reduction / Resilience in its activities and position UNOPS as a key technical partner in the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience projects.

UNOPS is looking to engage a DRR Management and Liaison Advisor to act as a focal point for the DRR/Resilience programme on behalf of UNOPS three delivery practices: the Sustainable Project Management Practice Group (SPMPG), the Sustainable Procurement Practice Group (SPPG) and the Sustainable Infrastructure Practice Group (SIPG). The DRR Management and Liaison Advisor will divide his/her time with 40% support to the DRR/Resilience programme on behalf of SPPG, 40% support on behalf of SPMPG and 20% support on behalf of SIPG.

Specific requirements

Education

Master’s degree in Project Management, Procurement, Engineering, Disaster Risk Management and/or another releated field. A Bachelor's Degree with a combination of additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Masters degree.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years progressively responsible experience (for incumbents holding a Master's Degree) or 12 years of experience (for incumbents holding a Bachelor's Degree) in the area of project management, procurement, engineering or disaster risk management in multiple contexts.

Experience with a variety of institutions; including UN, NGO, government/public institutions, private sector, research/academia

Relevant humanitarian emergency experience related to response and preparedness

Langugage

Fluency in English is a requirement.

Certifications

Professional certification in project management will be considered an asset (i.e. Prince2, PMP, CIPS).
