UNICEF seeks an Emergency Specialist (Recovery and Risk Reduction) to be based in its Office of Emergency Programmes, Geneva, Switzerland.
Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Early Warning, Preparedness and Risk Reduction section and the Chief Recovery and Risk Reduction Section, the Emergency Specialist (Recovery and Risk Reduction) will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of UNICEF’s responsibilities for social services in the IASC Global Cluster Working Group for Early Recovery and the development of UNICEF policies, strategies and operational capacities for natural disaster risk reduction. The incumbent will execute his/her duties in close coordination with the EMOPS humanitarian and Field Support and Humanitarian Policy Sections, the Recovery Specialists in EMOPS New York office and the Humanitarian-Recovery interface.
Your profile:
Advanced university degree in social sciences or other related field. Eight years progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in social development, management, monitoring and evaluation. Current knowledge of natural disaster risk reduction and post-crisis recovery policies and practices. Experience in inter-agency coordination in international development cooperation contexts. Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan, and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills. Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills. Good knowledge of computer management and applications. Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment. Fluency in English and French is required. Good working knowledge of a third official UN language is desirable.
