We are looking for three experts to support this programme. One position is to be filled as soon as possible, the others later this year. Contract duration will be two years due to programme duration. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be home based, with regular international deployments with a regional priority for Sub-Saharan Africa to reinforce Welthungerhilfe's engagement in delivering effective Anticipatory Humanitarian Action (AHA) programming.

As Expert Early Action Protocol (EAP) for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action you will be responsible for all actions concerning orientation, capacity building, development, implementation, and actualisation of Early Action Protocols within one of Welthungerhilfe’s strategic programmes. Here you will be member of a Technical Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Team which together with a Programme Management Unit forms an Operational Support Unit for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action within the Humanitarian Directorate of Welthungerhilfe.

Your responsibilities

  • Support Welthungerhilfe’s strategic programme on AHA in general, and regarding the assurance of a support function for participating organisation in countries assigned
  • Drive the scale-up of pilot EAP regions in current AHA pilot countries of Welthungerhilfe in Sub-Saharan Africa and further develop the multi-hazard approach of Welthungerhilfe and programme partners
  • Oversee and conduct studies to explore the feasibility for implementation of AHA in participating countries
  • Facilitate onboarding and capacity building workshops in participating countries
  • Support ongoing EAP development progress in respective countries
  • Facilitate training in EAP development and respective preparatory work for organizations
  • Participate and support in relevant regional AHA meetings, seminars, conferences, and dialogue platforms
  • Monitoring of project progress in respective countries
  • Participate in the preparation of thematic briefings
  • Ensure an ongoing update and country ownership of existing EAPs
  • Participate in technical consultations and administrative monitoring of implementation of anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Involvement in the validation and acceptance of project milestones in the EAP development processes
  • Advise on MEAL framework and assessment pre- and post-trigger
  • Support the review and monitoring of EAP projects as well as support of their implementation

Your profile

  • A university degree in a relevant field like disaster risk reduction, disaster risk management, or similar
  • At least one to three years of professional experience in humanitarian action
  • Experience in development of early action protocols, conducting vulnerability assessments, and applying participatory methods
  • Experience in the further development and localisation of forecasting and anticipation methods for weather-related and non-weather-related hazards
  • Experience in localising and adapting hazard monitoring models
  • Willingness to work in countries where Welthungerhilfe or programme partners are implementing or supporting anticipatory humanitarian action projects
  • Very good English language skills. French language skills are an advantage
