The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and intergovernmental organization, owned and managed by its Member States. RIMES provides regional early warning services and builds capacity of its Member States in the end-to-end early warning of tsunami and hydro-meteorological hazards.

The Field Engineer is involved in site identification, survey, selection, and preparation; equipment deployment and installation; and troubleshooting and maintenance of telemetered weather, water level, ocean state, and seismic observing and monitoring stations in RIMES Member and Collaborating States. He is also involved in documentation and onsite training on station operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance; and supports RIMES 24/7 facility for earthquake and tsunami services.

Duty station:

RIMES Regional Facility, Asian Institute of Technology campus, Pathumthani, Thailand

Type of contract:

One-year initially, extendable on above-satisfactory performance

Remuneration and benefits:

  • Monthly base salary negotiable, commensurate with qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor, preferably Master’s, degree in telecommunications/ electronics and communications/ electrical engineering, or related field;
  • Intimate knowledge of telemetry systems and various communication software usage and development

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in telemetry and observation data acquisition and management systems

Skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrable leadership ability;
  • Sound judgment and reasoning abilities;
  • Emotional stability;
  • English proficiency in communication

Personal qualities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Team-oriented work style;
  • Interest and experience in working in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Willingness to be on rotational work shift duty when not on field mission;
  • Self-motivated and a creative problem-solver;
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure on-call environment;
  • A good sense of humor and fun, but with seriousness on the quality and excellence of work
