Background

The world’s largest overseas aid charity, World Vision delivers real change for millions of children in the hardest places in the world. Their mission is to bring governments, local authorities, community groups, businesses and individuals together to tackle the causes of injustice and poverty – and to make a real and lasting difference in almost 100 countries.

Duties

- In particular, WI has prioritised working in fragile contexts to drive positive change for children in the areas of health, protection and resilience to disasters.
- Heading up the Fragility and Resilience Unit, you will drive forward this key activity and develop WI's understanding of the drivers of fragility: natural hazards (including those related to climate change), conflict and poor governance.
- To develop a holistic framework embracing both programmatic and policy approaches to resilience and fragility , whilst providing inspiring leadership to the Conflict and Governance Adviser and taking ownership of the budget and work plan – so expect considerable autonomy and impact.
- An experienced DRR and adaptation specialist, you will bring demonstrable expertise in research, programme development and external engagement, together with expert knowledge of international discussions on resilience.

Qualifications and requirements

- This should be backed by a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, extensive exposure to overseas locations and familiarity with the UNISDR Hyogo framework priorities.
- Capable of influencing policy, drafting high quality reports and effectively building capacity in cross-cultural contexts.
