The Risk Governance department of ADPC aims to ensure that policies and practices driving development in Asia and the Pacific include effective measures to reduce disaster and climate change risks equitably and transparently. ADPC’s Risk Governance framework puts gender and diversity at the heart of DRR and climate resilience (CR) and promotes the use of sex-age-disability-disaggregated data for formulating policies and designing plans and programs. The Risk Governance Department aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Assisting countries in enhancing risk governance through mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development policies, strategies, plans and programs;
  • Providing technical support to communities and the private sector organizations for strengthening disaster risk reduction at local level;

  • Promoting the integration of gender and diversity concerns in national and local disaster risk reduction and development policies and plans;

  • Promoting regional and trans-boundary cooperation for disaster risk reduction through sharing of knowledge, innovations and best practices;

  • Supporting the integration of gender equality and human rights in DRR and CR through the implementation of a dedicated 5-year program on ‘building resilience to inclusive and climate-adaptive disaster risk reduction (BRDR)’ in Asia-Pacific.

The Program Coordinator will be part of ADPC’s thematic department of Risk Governance. S/he will be involved in research support on a broad range of topics with a focus on gender equality in DRR.

Qualifications

Education:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (preferably Master’s degree) in development studies, social sciences, disaster risk management, especially gender studies or any other related fields.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of two year of professional experience of working in the area of gender and diversity, disaster risk management, and/or climate resilience;

  • Possess intermediate level of technical understanding on gender, gender in DRR in Asia and the Pacific region and integrating gender equality and women empowerment into DRR;

  • Strong research and analysis skills with excellent report writing and documentation;

  • Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English;

  • Ability to work in a diverse group of staff members, respect the importance of other disciplines and keen to learn from and contribute to various disciplines.

Languages:

English is the working language of ADPC. For the post advertised, fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of another language is an advantage.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide research assistance including data collection and review, information gathering and analysis on gender and DRR, gender equality and women empowerment in DRR and other information relevant to the thematic scope;

  • Assist the Risk Governance team in developing technical reports and documents on gender and DRR;

  • Provide support in compiling background information and developing briefing notes, session contents and presentations on gender and DRR for stakeholder consultations, meetings, workshops and other activities;

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director, Risk Governance.
