Tearfund is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Humanitarian Support Manager for their Asia Team.

Purpose

To provide technical support and humanitarian advice to strengthen the disaster preparedness and response of Tearfund’s partner-led programmes. To actively support knowledge management for Outcome 4 (responding to disasters) for the Asia Team and wider International Group, in particular to ensure that lessons learnt from earlier disaster responses are documented and learnt by Tearfund to ensure more efficient and effective responses to similar crises in the future.

General Purpose

  • To take responsibility for a designated area of the team’s overall task or specific projects. 
  • Share in responsibility for overall team tasks & be responsible for work packages.
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts.
  • Responsible for reviewing own personal development, and overall team tasks.

Requirements

Tearfund is looking for a relational, self-starter with a proven track record of accompanying local partners in disaster responses. 

You will be educated to degree-level or equivalent and have proven and substantive field-based experience in disaster management and the capacity building of local organisations. A comprehensive understanding of relevant good practice such as Core Humanitarian Standards and Sphere is required. You will have strong creative training and mentoring skills, excellent verbal communication skills, and have a proven track record in situational analysis, capturing learning and successful proposal development.

Must be a strong team worker, able to influence and bring others along with you in critical settings. You will be accustomed to working unsupervised and responding to tight deadlines.

Applicants with good spoken Burmese are particularly sought.

Location

The position will be based in Asia, ideally within either Myanmar, Bangladesh or India (subject to the right to live and work in that location and Tearfund's registration requirements). Applicants must therefore possess a valid passport/visa stating the right to live and work in one of these countries

Salary

Tearfund offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary is market matched and will depend on where the role is located. There are no expatriate benefits offered with this position.

Term

This is a fixed term position for 18 months.
