Field of Activity

Counteracting climate change requires extensive investments in renewable energies, energy and resource-efficient technologies and adaptation measures. A functioning financial sector is a prerequisite for mobilizing necessary investments and preparing the international community for climate change impacts - for instance through insurances solutions. GIZ’s competence center in Financial Systems Development and Insurance (KC FSDI) provides our partner countries with in-depth financial sector expertise in all key areas - from relatively new fields such as green finance and climate risk insurance to more traditional areas such as agricultural and micro finance.

The project to be supported is a public-private partnership (PPP) project in the field of climate risk insurance. GIZ's private cooperation partner is one of the world's leading reinsurance companies. The project activities comprise supra-regional workshops and national implementations in Africa, Southeast Asia and China. The implementation activities range from support of policy design and the implementation of national programs to insurance product development and capacity building & awareness raising workshops. In addition, the project team is hosting a website on climate risk insurance and fosters the international dialogue on the topic. On the technical side, the project team mainly deals with agricultural insurance and insurance solutions against natural catastrophes. The position is based in the KC FSDI.

Your Tasks

Within the scope of the PPP you support the team both on the technical and administrative side. Your contribution will be related to the following fields:

  1. Research on various topics around climate risk insurance
  2. Organization of experts events in Germany and abroad
  3. Supporting the team in knowledge management and maintaining the content on the project website for climate risk insurance
  4. Administrative support such as writing project reports, concept papers and presentations

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, (Development) Economics, Mathematical Sciences, Agriculture, International Relations, Disaster Risk Management or related fields.
  • Experience/know-how in the financial sector / on financial sector development from studies or internships/work.
  • Initial experience with insurance in the field of climate change, agriculture or disaster risk management is an advantage.
  • Experience in developing countries and/or emerging economies.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Good command of German.
  • Good knowledge of the standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Above-average organizational skills, structured thinking and can quickly dive into new topics.
  • Enjoy working in teams and good communication skills.

Salary

This internship offers a gross monthly stipend of €1520, plus an additional monthly expatriation allowance predetermined by GIZ and depending on the country of assignment.
