What is the JPO Programme?

The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme is an established program run by the United Nations (UN) and other multilateral organisations which provides young professionals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation and international development. JPOs are sponsored under bilateral agreements between multilateral organisations and participating Governments for assignments within specific organisations, up to three years.

JPO placement opportunity

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reductions (UNDRR) is the United Nations focal point for disaster risk reduction and coordinates the UN-wide implementation of the Sendai Framework. As the lead agency within the United Nations system for the coordination of disaster risk reduction, the UNDRR use their authoritative expertise and presence in five regional offices to build and nurture relationships with national and local governments, intergovernmental organisations, civil society, and the private sector. The successful candidate will be based in the Sub-Regional Office for the Pacific, based in Suva, Fiji. The JPO will gain knowledge of disaster risk reduction strategies and comprehensive risk management approaches in the Pacific region. They will support the UNDRR’s Suva office communications and engagement in the region. The successful candidate will be based in the Sub-Regional Office for the Pacific, based in Suva, Fiji.
