Background

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), a non-profit organisation, has been working with a range of partners including Government, UN Agencies, NGOs/CBOs on various sub-themes of disaster risk reduction (DRR) including ‘Mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development’. It has been intermittently working on DRR mainstreaming in Nepal since 2009.

Under the Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Programme (CDRMP), of Nepal, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has engaged ADPC to provide technical services on the programme component related to ‘Strengthening Institutional and Legislative Systems for Mainstreaming DRR in Nepal’. The implementation of programme components requires liaison with concerned ministries, national training institutions and local authorities, UN Agencies, NGOs and other agencies. In order to support the project implementation, ADPC is inviting application for Liaison Officer (Nepalese).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Liaison Officer would be responsible for undertaking the following specific tasks

- Day to day liaison with Government counterparts of the project at national and local level and programme team at UNDP to support effective implementation of the various activities under the project
- Collect information, data and documents relevant to specific activities, from various partners and under the guidance of the project experts, undertake relevant analysis of data
- Provide support in organizing meetings and consultation workshops under the project and support the project team in undertaking documentation and capturing the proceedings of the meetings
- Maintain work calendar and activities scheduled of the project and undertake necessary follow-up actions as assigned
- Any other task assigned by the Project Team

Reporting and coordination

The Liaison Officer will work under the overall supervision of Project Task Manager and Senior Experts involved in the project

Requirements

- Preferred post-graduate degree in a development-related discipline (such as economics, urban planning, rural development etc),.
- Minimum of two years of work experience in Nepal on areas related to development planning, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation etc.
- Familiarity of working with national and local government systems in Nepal
- Fluency in English and Nepalese
- Writing skills in English and Nepalese
- Proficiency in computer related skills
