The Physical Oceanographer leads RIMES applied research and tool development activities in coastal hazard and risk assessments and early warning, which includes tsunami, storm surge, and sea swells.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: At least Master degree in physical oceanography, coastal engineering, hydrodynamics, or related field, with strong background in mathematics (including calculus); scientific publications in reviewed journals on coastal hazards and risks, particularly on tsunami, storm surge, and sea swells
Experience: At least 5 years experience in applied research and tool development in ocean physical processes, sea swells, tsunami generation, propagation and inundation, storm surge, and other ocean interactions with its boundaries at the sea floor and the coast, as well as ocean and atmosphere interactions.
Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated applied research skills, English communication proficiency.
