The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), established in 1986, is a regional non-profit foundation with headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand supporting the advancement of safer communities and sustainable development, through implementing programs that reduce the impact of disasters upon countries and communities in Asia and the Pacific. The primary geographical focus of ADPC’s activities is Asia with the South, South East and East Asia being the primary sub-regions. 

ADPC has more than 30 years of working experience in Asia along with the national and local Government of its charter member countries as well as countries of the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) on Disaster Management. ADPC addresses the region’s preparedness needs in development of capacities and promotion of learning; dissemination of information and knowledge management; provision of technical and advisory services; implementation of pioneering regional programs; preparations and follow up of global and regional mechanisms; establishment of new regional mechanisms; support for inter-agency coherence and coordination and catalytic facilitation and partnership to sub-regional mechanisms. Statement of Intent: 

The Project Coordinator will directly report to the Project Manager as guided by the Director of the department of Urban Resilience (UR). He /She will be responsible to provide technical resource inputs related to applications of Structural/Civil Engineering/ Urban Planning/ Geographic Information System/ Geological/ Hydrological knowledge into urban or related disaster preparedness initiatives by the department in project implementation and new project development, as well as to provide assistance in strategic planning of the department.

Required Qualifications and Specification:

  • At least a Bachelor (4 years) degree in Civil Engineering/ Urban & Regional (or) Rural Planning/ Geology/ Hydrology from recognized University in Bangladesh. 
  • 2 Years practical experience in application of Civil Engineering/Urban Planning/ Geographic Information System/ Geological/ Hydrological knowledge in the field of Earthquake/ Flood Modeling/ Urban Planning research will be preferred;
  • Excellent understanding on building construction, urban geology, urban planning regulations, urban development policy/ regulations in Bangladesh;
  • Strong analytical skills; 
  • Fluency in spoken English & Bangla and Excellent technical writing skills;
  • Willingness to travel frequently for project areas; 
  • Strong skills on using application software;

General Requirements:

  • Operate within all ADPC Guidelines & Procedures/ Policies;
  • Provide ongoing capacity building training & development to ADPC staff as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical resource inputs related to applications of Urban DRR Research with regard to natural hazards. 
  • Conduct Hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment with regard to Earthquake, landslide, cyclone, flood etc. 
  • Assist in the development of new projects, including proposal writing and presentation. 
  • Involve actively on documentation and information dissemination. 
  • Develop relevant training manuals, and facilitate training programs.
  • Other Assignments as assigned by the supervisor.  

Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports to the respective Project Manager as guided by the Director of Urban Resilience (UR). 
  • Work closely with other staff of ADPC Head Office and Bangladesh Office

Contract Duration: Six (6) months initially
