Position description:

The Project Officer shall liaise with government agencies, local authorities and communities, and other partners for implementing RIMES activities in the Southwest Pacific region. In collaboration with the countries’ National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, organize, facilitate, and document training workshops on analysis of risks to hydro-meteorological hazards and application of assessment outputs in users’ planning and decision-making processes; collect data and relevant information needed for developing decision support systems to aid climate risk analysis in the agriculture sector; organize, facilitate sessions in, and document climate information provider-user forums; assist in facilitating processes for user uptake of customized climate information in planning and decision-making for resource management and disaster risk reduction; and organize, facilitate, and document other RIMES capacity building initiatives in the countries through the Papua New Guinea RIMES Sub-regional Hub. The Project Officer shall also assist in project documentation to communicate project highlights, good practices, and lessons learned to its stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications:

Knowledge:

Bachelor’s, preferably Master’s, degree in rural development, social science, or allied disciplines; knowledge on application of climate information in planning and decision-making is desired, but not required

Experience:

At least 4 years relevant experience, particularly in coordinating work with different stakeholders at various levels and in documenting and communicating project experiences

Skills and abilities:

Proficiency in English oral and written communication

Personal qualities:

Excellent inter-personal skills; flexibility and ability to work hard independently and in a team; self-motivated, with ability to prioritize work, multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities
