The Australian Red Cross seeks a volunteer for an assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.
To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years and over, Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with Special Category Visas.
Mongolia Red Cross plays a significant role in disaster management, helping communities to prepare for and respond to major disasters including events such as the 'dzud' (severe winter conditions) and potential earthquakes. It achieves this through an extensive national network that comprises 33 mid-level branches, more than 900 primary level branches and almost 10,000 volunteers.
The Disaster Management Department is seeking an AVID volunteer to help implement an Australian Government funded project that seeks to develop a long-term risk reduction and community resilience program to scale up disaster response in four provinces of the country. This project will also respond to emerging areas of vulnerability associated with mining activities.
The volunteer will share new approaches in mobilising, supporting and building the capacity of targeted communities, and support staff to build their awareness of community resilience concepts and urban disaster management.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience in disaster management
- Experience evaluating or measuring progress
- Qualifications in social science or equivalent
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
