An exciting opportunity to take your disaster management experience to the next level. You will support Philippine Red Cross to enhance and strengthen disaster risk reduction and management across 720 villages.

This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

The Philippine Red Cross is one of the premier humanitarian organisations in the country, committed to providing quality life-saving services that protect the life and dignity of Filipinos in vulnerable situations. Comprised of 1044 staff and thousands of volunteers, the society has the mission of being ‘always first, always ready and always there.’

Philippine Red Cross is enhancing the disaster management capacity of each of its 100 chapters across the country, providing training and tailored solutions to staff and volunteers.

An AVID volunteer has been requested to provide technical assistance in the development and initial implementation of a coherent, comprehensive and effective disaster management plan.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•Experience in project/program management with excellent planning and organisational skills
•Experience with capacity strengthening and partnership building with a proven ability to empower staff
•Qualifications or specialised training in disaster management and all its phases or equivalent professional experience
• Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
