Researcher in Risk Assessment

CIMA Research Foundation is a non-profit research organization committed to promote the study, scientific research, technological development and higher education in engineering and environmental sciences, within the fields of civil protection, public health and aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems conservation.

CIMA is searching for a researcher for strengthen up its Program in the field of “Probabilistic multi-hazard risk assessment and data on losses”. The Program includes more than 20 research or applied research projects funded by international or national (Italian) organizations.

The desired candidate should work in the pursuing of the following objectives within the Program:

• Development of a technique for impact assessment calibration and validation;

• Development of an approach for multi-hazard impact assessment.

The selected researcher will work in collaboration with other researchers and technicians from CIMA. English will be main working language used in developing the activities.

The ideal candidate should have the following characteristics:

• a Ph.D. or relevant research experience in Disaster Risk Management or related topics;

• experience in vulnerability and risk modelling, preferably in connection with floods;

• experience in processing and integration of different sources and types of data for exposure and vulnerability characterization at different scales;

• proficiency in the use of GIS open source tools and in Python scripting;

• preferably a background in Engineering, Geography or Economics;

• willingness to travel abroad.

Further desirable expertise could refer to:

• disaster loss data collection and organization;

• multi-hazard impact assessment;

• integrated impact assessment;

• capacity building in the risk assessment field.

• communication skills (spoken, written and presentation);

• knowledge of French/Spanish.
