Project 1: Changes in Flood Insurance Provision in Australia (SCI #2)


This project investigates the implications for high-risk communities arising from changes in flooding insurance provision in Australia. The candidate will be conducting multi-disciplinary research focusing on equity, legal and financial issues relating to flood risk management. The project will include an international review of the lessons learnt from failures of previous instances of government involvement in the insurance market.

Project 2: Multi-hazard Early Warning Systems in Asia-Pcific (SCI #3)

This project investigates recent advances in developing multi-hazard early warning systems and strengthening disaster preparedness in coastal communities. Through case study analysis and cross-case learning, the candidate will contribute to improving the communication of early warning information, and strengthen trust in early warning messages. The candidate will work closely with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) in selected Asia Pacific countries. Knowledge, work experience and/or language skills relating to one or several of the following countries would be an asset: Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, East Timor.
