Job Description

- Design, consult and implement an Education sector Disaster Risk & Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Strategy for Save the Children Australia.
- Support the design and implementation of a Save the Children International Education DRR & CCA strategy.
- Support the Senior Advisor – Climate Change Adaptation to ensure that education is a core component of the CCA strategy.
- Support implementation of Save the Children Australia (SCA) DRR and CCA strategy, Humanitarian and Emergency Response strategy and the International and Domestic Programs strategies
- Ensure alignment and complementarity with SCI global initiatives.
- Coordination with Save the Children members through global initiatives as well as in bilateral contacts relating to DRR strategy & implementation.
- Develop guidance notes and tools for the design and implementation of projects and programs which will enable strategy implementation.
- Provide technical advice and support to individual programs or projects as required and according to specific skills.
- Contribute to the development of systems and tools to support quality programming, and as required support the uptake and utilisations these tools globally.
- Advise and discuss with national and international staff on the integration of DRR & CCA education interventions in ongoing program and advocacy work.
- Actively contribute to capacity building and increase knowledge and understanding of DRR/CCA throughout Save the Children domestically and internationally. Supervise, mentor and guide DRR/CCA staff in domestic and international programs.
- Represent Save the Children in relevant Education and DRR forums as required. In coordination with the Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy advisor, SCI Advocacy Working Group and the Global and regional DRR & CCA WG,
- Develop a 3 year education DRR & CCA advocacy strategy.
- Establish, as necessary, partnerships with other organisations and agencies that will support the rights and wellbeing of children.
- Represent Save the Children Australia in meetings with Save the Children members, donors or with other bodies in Australia as required. -
- Manage relationships with other internal stakeholders to ensure the effective flow of appropriate information.

Candidate Profile

Skills


- Tertiary qualification/s in Education, International Development, Social/Political Science or relevant & related discipline, essential.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to assimilate and process information on development and humanitarian issues.
- Demonstrated strategic planning skills.
- Excellent representational, advocacy and diplomatic skills to enable the post holder to operate effectively within Save the Children and externally.
- Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences.
- Highly developed relationship building & interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a diverse range of people. Highly developed report writing.
- Strong time management, administrative and organisational skills. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in challenging, and sometimes insecure environments. High levels of attention to detail and quality.
- Knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Significant direct experience of designing and implementing of education and /or DRR, CCA programs for an international organisation, preferably in a managerial role.
- Proven track record for the successful implementation of education programs in challenging contexts.
- Experience of working with departments of curriculum development in the Ministries of education in developing countries. Ideally in a capacity of designing, reviewing and implementation of primary school curriculum.
- Experience contributing, reviewing & tracking strategic plans. Experience of successful fundraising and donor liaison.
- Experience in preparation of funding proposals. Working knowledge and understanding of AusAID and Government Agency funding and reporting procedures.
- Experience with various donor agencies and/or Australian government systems.
- Additional language/s other than English (especially Bahasa, French, Spanish or Arabic), advantageous.
- Experience of advocacy strategies, desirable
