Background
The Food Economy Group (FEG) is seeking a qualified candidate for a Senior Livelihoods & Disaster Risk Management Specialist position on a project which is slated to begin in February 2012. The project aims to promote practical applications of existing livelihoods information in aiding the decision-making process, both on the emergency response and the development planning sides, and building capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in Ethiopia.
Responsibilities
- The senior livelihoods & disaster risk management specialist will lead in the development of user-friendly livelihoods-based applications to meet the needs and demand of a range of decision makers in Ethiopia’s Disaster Risk Management community.
- He/she will help coordinate technical activities aimed at increasing the uptake and ownership of existing tools as well as the development of additional tools.
- He/she will oversee the capacity building activities of the project and act as a liaison with USAID funded projects that have DRR, livelihoods and early warning components.
Requirements
Education
- The minimum qualifications for the senior specialist candidate will include a Master’s degree in rural development, DRM, livelihoods studies, food security, economics, or related field of study or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible work experience in managing or implementing Disaster Risk Reduction, Food Security and capacity building programs.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good inter-personal relationships and networking;
- Established relationship with and/or substantive knowledge of key players in Ethiopia implementing DRR/DRM and CCA related policies and activities.
