Position Summary

The Senior Program Manager manages the day-to-day implementation and continuous improvement of ISC’s Resilient Cities & Regions Program, which helps cities and urban regions across the US develop and implement high-caliber resilience strategies, while advancing the fast-growing field of urban resilience, through a mix of peer-learning services, knowledge products, and technical and strategic assistance to selected communities. The position reports to the Director of the Resilient Cities & Regions Program and sits on ISC’s Urban Program Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director of the Resilient Cities & Regions Program to refine, continuously improve, implement and evaluate the program strategy;
  • Partner with the Budget & Operations Officer to lead the development and management of the program work plan and budget;
  • Coordinate and evaluate place-based engagements (strategic, technical and/or financial assistance) in several US cities/regions, and lead ISC’s engagement in one or more of those places;
  • Lead the peer-learning element of the program, including the design, delivery and evaluation of annual peer-learning workshops;
  • Work closely with the Urban Program Communications Officer to develop and disseminate a series of major knowledge products on best practices in urban resilience;
  • Manage a distributed team of professionals, including direct-reports and matrixed staff;
  • Work closely with the VP for Urban Programs and the Director of the Cities & Regions Program to support business development and fund-raising efforts to expand and enhance the program over time

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and evaluating complex projects with multiple funding sources;
  • Direct experience working with or for community-based non-profit organizations and/or a city or regional government, preferably focused on social justice and/or climate change adaptation and resilience issues;
  • Demonstrated ability and track record as a leader and champion for under-represented voices from under-resourced communities;
  • Ability to provide effective leadership to a distributed, highly matrixed team;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Strong work ethic and personal integrity;
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, Internet browsers, and other software.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the ISC mission and goals;
  • Advanced degree in fields related to urban sustainability and resilience, including urban planning, design, engineering, law, public administration, natural resource management, among many others. An equivalent level of direct professional experience beyond a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) will be considered;
  • Five or more years of relevant professional experience, preferably working with or for community-based nonprofit organizations and/or a city or regional government entity in a US city in a leadership capacity;
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
