Job context

The position of Technical Unit Coordinator (TUC) is attached to the Bangladesh program within the Direction of Development Action at Handicap International (HI). HI has been working in Bangladesh since 1997, with a focus on creating sustainable changes in terms of ensuring rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in the society. The organization presently employs a team of 50 national staff and 3 expatriate staff. HI projects focus on :

  • Access to quality rehabilitation services
  • Rights of people with disabilities
  • Inclusive Disaster Risk Management and Emergency Response
  • Support to refugees in a chronic emergency state, o Inclusion of people with disabilities in development and society (livelihood, education, access to justice)

Your mission

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director (ie the Head of the Program), The Technical Unit Coordinator (TUC) is a member of the senior management team. As such, he accounts for:

  • The technical quality of all the projects within the program
  • The technical staff capacity building
  • The mobilization and enhancement of local technical resources

The Technical Unit Coordinator (TUC) main responsibilities are:

  • Providing adequate technical guidance and support to ongoing projects
  • Ensuring the technical capacity building and knowledge management
  • Ensuring the Technical Unit (TU) staff management & development
  • Participating in the mapping and enhancing of technical expertise and networks at all levels
  • Ensuring the coordination and communication within the program (admin, log, etc…)

Candidate's profile

  • You hold an advanced university degree in DRR disability, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, public health or any other relevant field
  • You have at least 02 years of overseas experience as a Technical Coordinator (DRR, readaptation, livelihood, etc) for an international organization
  • You have at least 03 years of overseas experience in developing and monitoring programs aimed at improving the situation of discriminated groups, preferably people with disabilities
  • You master capacity building and management for a multi-disciplinary team
  • You demonstrate excellent analytical, planning, organizing, task prioritization skills

Specificities of job

  • Job environment: The position is based in Dhaka, the climate is subtropical/tropical with low altitude. Dhaka offers a correct range of recreational and leisure activities (shopping malls, restaurants, coffee shops, international clubs) and hosts a large expatriate community. The office and expatriate housing is located within the diplomatic area in Gulshan. Night life options are limited outside of authorized international clubs while public transport options are not accessible to expatriates
  • Housing: Possibility of individual housing possible with financial participation for rent from the expatriate
  • Security conditions : Bangladesh remains a medium-risk area, security rules are to be strictly followed both in work and private life (last update: November 2015)
