Background
To build capacity among conservationists and those working in related fields, WWF’s Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program (EFN) is offering fellowships to emerging leaders in Asia, Africa, and Latin America who are able to make significant contributions to helping people and nature adapt to a changing climate.
Who should apply?
Russell E. Train Fellowships support individuals pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in conservation. Each year, WWF supports committed conservationists from target countries to receive financial support for their studies and field research. Applicants can apply to attend any university around the world and must return to their home countries to work in conservation for at least two years after completing their degree.
Applicants from the following countries are eligible to apply: Colombia, Ecuador, Fiji, Guatemala, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Solomon Islands, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia
Objectives & Scope
Successful candidates will focus their studies and research on one or more of the following areas:
- Climate science, climatology and climate modeling
- Climate change impacts on wildlife
- Impacts of human responses to climate change on biodiversity
- Ecological and social-ecological resilience to climate change
- Ecosystem-based adaptation and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction
- Adaptation for protected areas
- Environment and disaster management
- Natural and nature-based techniques to flood risk management
- Communicating climate science for conservation
