COP29
Introduction
The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference, known as COP 29, is scheduled to convene in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 November to 22 November 2024.
Building on the momentum from COP 28, scheduled for November 30 to December 12, 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), COP 29 aims to be a "stand and deliver" conference, as emphasized by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell. The conference seeks to unite global leaders to move beyond pledges and focus on tangible implementation, translating insights from the first Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement into enhanced climate action. By prioritizing ambitious measures and ensuring necessary support mechanisms are in place, COP 29 aspires to accelerate the transition towards a low-emission and climate-resilient world. Countries are expected to adjust their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to align with the goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, compared to pre-industrial levels.
