Introduction

Early Warnings for All is a groundbreaking initiative to ensure that everyone on Earth is protected from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving early warning systems by the end of 2027.

Early warning systems have helped decrease the number of deaths and have reduced losses and damages resulting from hazardous weather, water or climate events. But major gaps still exist, especially in small island developing states and least developed countries.

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, in 2022 called for a global effort to ensure that early warning systems protect everyone on Earth by 2027.

The Caribbean leads the way towards early warnings for all

The Prime Ministers of Barbados and Saint Lucia, and the heads of FAO, UNEP and WMO, joined UNDRR to launch the first regional Early Warnings For All Initiative in the Caribbean.

Africa is particularly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, and will benefit greatly from the UN Secretary-General's plan for Early Warnings for All. To cover all of the continent will take a huge effort, but the first steps have already been taken.

Early Warning for All: Saving lives in Asia and the Pacific

The call for ‘Early Warning for All’ is critical in Asia and the Pacific, the world’s most disaster-prone region. Between 1970 and 2020, disasters in the region affected 6.9 billion people and killed more than 2 million.
