Workshop on national platforms at the International Disaster and Risk Conference (IDRC) Davos 2008
The Swiss National Platform for Natural Disaster Reduction (PLANAT) and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) together with their partners, the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) and the Association Française pour la Prévention des Catastrophes Naturelles (AFPCN), organise as parallel Workshop on National Platforms at the IDRC 2008.
The overall objective of the event is to strengthen multi-sectoral national coordinating mechanisms/National Platforms for DRR. The immediate objectives are to foster dialogue/exchange and knowledge transfer among disaster management authorities and their partners from Northern and Southern countries.
It is also planned to draw country specific action plans to:
- further strengthen the existing national DRR coordinating mechanisms including already established national platforms for DRR,
- improve the systematic coordination of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation at national level and
- reinforce coordination and information exchange among national platforms and countries at regional level, heading towards the second session of the Global Platform for DRR in June 2009.
