For over 20 years, RIKS has developed software tools to assist planners in evaluating and analyzing the impact of policy alternatives at city, regional, and national levels. Among its tools is the Metronamica land use modeling framework, which enables users to set up a land use change model for specific regions without requiring custom software development. RIKS also creates custom Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS) that incorporate models from various disciplines-economics, demographics, hydrology, plant growth, land use, and transport-tailored to specific policy contexts. These systems provide an integrated assessment of different scenarios based on social, environmental, and economic indicators.
RIKS tools have been applied across diverse domains, including urban planning, regional planning at the administrative, national, and international levels, river basin and coastal zone management, and environmental and ecosystem studies.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
