Key achievements in building resilience since the adoption of the HFA in 2005
  • We feel three big achievements are followng:

    - A range of stakeholders are familiar with HFA and what it exactly means. Sensitization has been a major achievement.
    - HFA was able to identify a clear and clean framework, a framework which was catering to the need. I’m talking here specially about Pakistan.
    - ISDR and other related institutions which worked in the light of HFA and provided technical assistance to the stakeholders as across. We feel it was/is a great start.

  • We have seen in Pakistan and particularly our program areas in northern part of the country, that communities have been sensitized regarding the risks and vulnerability. they ask questions regarding the Geo-hazards, and other climate induced hazards. since the occurrence of some major disasters in the region like, Atabad landslide, Flash Floods in 2010 and 2011. Now they realize that such initiatives are very much fruitful to safe their lives and livelihood. since the adoption of HFA, though there have been some improvements in the disaster response and recovery. but there is again gaps in putting an effective efforts for EWS for various hazards. we also need to study the localized hazards which have affected the mountain communities yearly and therefore, they become economically weak, which leads them towards poverty. but such disaster are neglected by by the governments. i feel that we must also concentrate on the localized hazards which yearly damage the infrastructures yearly. but the costs of these damaged infrastructures are neglected by the governments.
we must also focus upon the GLOFs, landslides and debris flows.
