Klimaalam: Step up and step in to act on climate
The Oscar M. Lopez Center, in collaboration with Adarna House, developed this book with a focus on illustrating practical and relatable ways that climate change affects young Filipinos. The book aims to provide readers not only with the science of climate change, but also examples of how climate change interacts with human and natural systems, and how readers can become agents of change in their schools, households, and communities. The book is relevant to all Filipino students regardless of the type of community they live in. Readers are provided with key questions to help them localize and concretize climate impacts in their communities and with the opportunity to learn more about different types of solutions and actions that they can take. The book also recognizes the importance of education in making Filipinos more climate resilient.
Because the impacts of climate change are complex and systemic, this book found the following:
- Climate change issues are environmental issues, but not all environmental issues are due to climate change.
- Both adaptation and mitigation strategies are important to climate action
- Climate change cannot be discussed without risks, including extreme events.
- All activities are structured so that found, recycled, or upcycled objects can be used.
