Migration and global environmental change: future challenges and opportunities
This report asserts that many measures to reduce the impacts of environmental change through disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response and adaptation to climate change could have additional implications in terms of reducing displacement and migration. The project Migration and Global Environmental Change examines how profound changes in environmental conditions such as flooding, drought and rising sea levels will influence and interact with patterns of global human migration over the next 50 years.
The key message of this report is that migration in the face of global environmental change may not be just part of the ‘problem’ but can also be part of the solution.
