The Institution

Only recently founded in January 2012, Rabdan Academy, a duel sector institution, will produce outstanding graduates in such fields as safety, security, defence, emergency preparedness and crisis management. The graduates of the Academy will be highly sought after as team members and leaders and will be able to efficiently and effectively respond, using a multi-sector perspective, to deal with all types of threats, hazards, incidents and crises. Rabdan graduates will be life-long and adaptive learners and be able to deal with new kinds of threats as they arise. Current students are nominated and sponsored by stakeholder organizations - the General Headquarters UAE Armed Forces (GHQ), Abu Dhabi Police, Ministry of Interior (MOI), and the Police.

Key Responsibilities of the position

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, the Program Chair IEM & BCM will:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for IEM & BCM, ensuring a high level of stakeholder input and ownership across the Academy;
  • Provide leadership and expertise to faculty, campuses and centres in developing high standards of education and development, techniques and practices;
  • Be responsible for overseeing and contributing to the effective delivery of IEM & BCM courses in degree programmes as well as short course and workshop programmes;
  • Identify opportunities for the development of additional programs and courses;
  • Build meaningful and exemplary practices in IEM and BCM that are consistent with licensing and accreditation standards and requirements;
  • Design methodologies that promote a student-centric approach to the delivery and assessment of IEM & BCM including short courses and workshops;
  • Provide advice to IEM & BCM staff and organisational units as required;
  • Manage liaison with stakeholders and other relevant agencies on behalf of the Academy;
  • Report regularly to the Academic Board on the quality of IEM & BCM, and propose strategies to improve these areas using evidence-based analysis;
  • Engage in the leadership, mentoring and management of faculty, including resourcing, staff performance and development;
  • Produce responsible budget plans consistent with the strategic and operational plans of the Academy; and
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Dean or representative.

Key Attributes of the position

The Program Chair IEM & BCM must:

  • Have a strong commitment to excellence in education, development and training;
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of contemporary IEM and BCM pedagogies and practices with a particular focus on practical delivery and assessment;
  • Demonstrate an innovative approach to IEM & BCM, and the ability to present this to a variety of constituents using both oral and written communication;
  • Have the ability to work autonomously, demonstrate strong organisational skills and manage multiple priorities;
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in carrying out research and development in the IEM and BCM environments;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and team building skills, and the ability to create, develop and maintain strong working relationships (both internally and externally) with a wide range of partners; and
  • Have sound report-writing skills and ability to present information in a clear and comprehensive manner to a wide range of audiences.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • A PhD or equivalent in an appropriate field or a Master’s degree combined with an appropriate amount of experience in Business Continuity programs or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional-level experience working in a similar capacity in a higher education environment with a track record of outcomes and results expected at that level.
  • A sustained track record of teaching excellence in a reputable university or VET institution.
  • A sustained track record of leadership and excellence in developing teaching and learning materials.

Desirable:

  • A working knowledge of the United Arab Emirates, Commission for Academic Accreditation requirements.
  • A PhD or equivalent in IEM or BCM
  • Other postgraduate qualifications in education, preferably in the teaching and education of adults.
